About This Course

Aim: After completing this course you will know what is required to pass the TOEFL iBT Writing Exam, and you will have begun to significantly improve your writing skills, particularly as required for the two writing tasks on the exam.


By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1.specify the nature of (i.e. what is required by) the writing tasks on the TOEFL iBT Exam.

2.evaluate your level of competency in writing English to communicate in an academic environment.

3.specify what you need to learn/achieve so that you will be ready to do the two writing tasks on the TOEFL Exam.

4.listen to an extract from a lecture while (at the same time) writing notes which summarize the main ideas given in the lecture. a short text and listen to a lecture extract, and then write a summary of around 200 words, based on what you have read and heard.

6.write an essay of at least 300 words on a given topic BUT based on your own knowledge and experience.

7.write an essay which expresses clearly your own ideas about a given topic.

8.write a well-organized essay, in which you develop a set of ideas.

9.state your level of competency with writing English, in terms of the quality and accuracy of language required for the TOEFL iBT Exam.

10.compile a set of examples of your attempts at writing the texts required for the tasks listed above (i.e. specifically items 4 & 5) and be ready to continue working on these when you attend full-time classes in TOEFL iBT Exam preparation at Asian University in July, August and September of 2015. .
